Laura has an interdisciplinary bachelors in Women’s Studies and a Master in Latin American Studies, both from Stanford University. A dual Mexican/US citizen, she works as an international relations analyst, journalist, researcher and consultant on movement building and gender justice in the Western Hemisphere. She currently works with Just Associates in addition to her longtime commitment to the Americas Program.
Olivia studied Political Science and International Relations (CIDE) and holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies (Graduate Institute). She specializes in gender, justice and social movements. She strongly believes in restorative justice as an alternative to violence and that we can build peace from the collective.
José Sampietro studied Political Science at UNAM. He works on issues related to peasant rights and food sovereignty. His areas of interest are community building processes and self-managed forms of organization.
Since 1979, we have been a source of information and analysis on the security and human rights context in Latin America, with a focus on the impact of U.S. policies in the region.
Together with our network of analysts, the Americas Program (now MIRA) has closely accompanied social movements fighting for justice and has contributed to the strengthening of South-South as well as South-North dialogues.
After 40 years, we have decided to take a turn in our work, convinced of the importance of having a feminist perspective in our analysis. We are proud of the road we have traveled and want to continue building new possibilities for action.
