Coffee Hour: Cowboy in Caracas-Perspective of Venezuela's Democratic Revolution from a Caracas Cardboard Shack 2/27
Saturday, February 27thth 10:00am-11:45am
At the Resource Center of the Americas
Speaker: Author Charles Hardy
Presented in English
“Charles Hardy, author of Cowboy in Caracas: A North American’s Memoir of Venezuela’s Democratic Revolution, will challenge the poisonous U.S. government mantra against Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. His unique perspective on the Chavista revolution comes from the vantage point of living eight years as a Catholic priest in a cardboard shack on a hillside barrio in Caracas. Hardy conveys with affection and admiration the dignity and courage of the ordinary people of Venezuela, people whom the Western media have no connection to. You will come away knowing why Hugo Chavez is loved by these people, and why the U.S. government and the Western media have tried to demonize him. Hardy has been writing and speaking about the political and social reality of Latin America for over forty years, and has visited almost every Central and South American country. He lives in Caracas and maintains a blog at www.cowboyincaracas.com.”
