Coffee Hour: Returned Human Rights Accompanier Speaks on War Crimes Trials Developments in Guatemala - 2/6

Saturday, February 6th 10:00am-11:45am
At the Resource Center of the Americas

Presented in English

Amanda Kistler recently returned from Guatemala where she worked during the past two years as an international human rights accompanier with the Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA). She will speak about her experiences accompanying indigenous communities involved in accusing ex-dictators of committing acts of genocide during the internal armed conflict and reflect on how the legacy of impunity continues to affect human rights work today. As a witness to several precedent-setting verdicts during her time in Guatemala, Amanda will share stories from, and lessons learned during, her time working with Guatemalan human rights defenders who continue to fight for justice despite the dangerous context.

Hosts: Sarah Humpage and Eduardo Jurado
